Türk Telekom International provides a full range of Internet/data services, infrastructure, and wholesale voice services to incumbents, alternative carriers, mobile operators, cable TV companies, Internet service providers, and corporate customers.
Netsia, a US subsidiary of Argela, is based in Santa Clara, California in the heart of Silicon Valley. With key architects, engineers and product people, Netsia is developing leading edge solutions for the telecom industry with development and implementation support from Argela. NETSIA is in active participation with open source communities and standards bodies and provides enriched, telcograde, and supported distributions of the open source platforms in a continuous manner.
Main challenge
Türk Telekom wanted to challenge a longstanding telecom business model: the end-to-end infrastructure provider, which locks network operators into expensive partnerships with vendor technology that may not be the most optimal for their customers.
Türk Telekom’s goal was to develop a fully disaggregated network. From the fiber delivering connectivity into the home, to the router enabling wireless access throughout the home, Türk Telekom’s new offering was custom built to meet their specific needs. However, because existing network operator software wasn’t built for multi-vendor integration, Türk Telekom needed to both implement a new software solution and find the vendors best fit to join the cutting-edge project.
Solutions
Netsia, a US subsidiary of Argela/Türk Telekom, solved the software challenge with its Netsia BB Suite. The suite provides network operators with an open, multi-vendor platform based on the open-source SDN Enabled Broadband Access (SEBA) project and broadband forum data models. With this solution, network operators can extend software-defined programming to the fixed access network with customized support for each vendor.

Once an operator adopts the BB Suite, they have full flexibility to choose products and vendors that work for them, while having the full flexibility to customize the solution to their needs.

As Türk Telekom built a lineup of preferred providers to function within its disaggregated network, Zyxel became a top choice to provide fiber infrastructure within Türk Telekom’s network – specifically Zyxel’s Multi SDA products, all-in-one PON Whitebox OLTs.

Türk Telekom has tested and verified Zyxel’s PON Whitebox OLTs within its live network and is ready to deploy the technology globally. With its new disaggregated offering, Türk Telekom is positioned to become a trend-setter in the network operations space.
