Why you need to think about the switch if you are planning to upgrade to WiFi 6 or WiFi 7

You’ll have undoubtedly heard about the benefits of upgrading to WiFi 6 or WiFi 7 technology – and if that is something you're planning to do soon, you'll also need to think about upgrading your switches.

WiFi 6 technologies support speeds of 2.5Gbps and on WiFi 7 devices you can go up to 10Gbps. Consequently, if you want to get the full benefits of these technologies, you will need to make sure that your switch can support that kind of bandwidth. If you plan to run the access point using Power over Ethernet (PoE), you’ll also need to make sure the PoE wattage available will be sufficient to support the access point.

Further to that, you may need to look at the bandwidth across the whole of the network. There is no point, after all, in deploying fast new technologies at the edge of the network if there is not sufficient bandwidth to support those speeds on the network backbone.

Zyxel Networks has multi-gigabit switches that can support these speeds and we’ll be introducing more devices soon to ensure that you can provide enough bandwidth out to WiFi 6 and WiFi 7 access points and right across the network.

If you need any advice or support on deploying WiFi 6 and WiFi 7 technologies and upgrading your network infrastructure, please contact your nearest Zyxel Networks partner or branch office.
