ZyXEL doubles sales of web-managed PoE switches to claim 27% UK market share

November 06, 2013

ZyXEL Communications, a leading supplier of networking and communications solutions, has cemented its position as a leading player in the UK web-managed Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switch market, doubling its sales over the last 12 months.

Figures from CONTEXT give the company a 27% share of this important and fast-growing segment of the market in August 2013, compared to the 13% share that ZyXEL claimed in August 2012. Sequential month-on-month growth has also been strong – ZyXEL’s share of the market in July was 22% and in June it was 18%.

The company’s success is due mainly to the popularity of its GS1910 Smart Managed Switch Series and the growing reputation of ZyXEL as a credible provider of business-class networking infrastructure solutions, says Antony Byford, Head of Channel, UK and Ireland for ZyXEL.

“The GS1910 really hits the sweet spot for SMBs right now, offering excellent high-powered PoE capabilities and Layer 2 management features at a great price. We have been promoting our web-managed switches strongly through our channel and offering them attractive margins and incentives and our partners have taken full advantage and done a great job in taking the GS1910 family to market.”

ZyXEL’s sales have been boosted further in recent weeks by the new GS1900-8 and GS1900-8HP switches, which are Smart Managed switches that support up t eight standard PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) or high-powered PoE devices respectively. These switches are ideal for smaller deployments of PoE-driven wireless access points, IP surveillance cameras and IP phones.

The company is also making strong inroads in other areas of the market. Its sales of 802.11n access points were up 74 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2013, again according to figures from CONTEXT2. This has been driven principally by the company’s growing reputation, said Byford.

“ZyXEL is now recognised as a leading player both in wireless connectivity and network switching. We are seeing more partners actively promoting ZyXEL solutions and more customers are repeat purchasing and staying loyal to ZyXEL across the network.  That’s having a positive effect on sales of all our product lines and driving good growth for us and for our partners.”

The ZyXEL GS1910 web-managed switches includes 24-port, 48-port and stackable models and offer full gigabit performance across the network and SNMP support. Support for high-powered PoE makes them ideal platforms for extended wireless networks, IP surveillance and IP telephony deployments

ZyXEL’s extensive NWA1100, NWA3000 and NWA5000 series of access points meet the needs of all types of user – from small businesses that need reliable WiFi coverage over a small areas, to larger firms, schools, hotels and other organisations that need extensive and higher secure wireless coverage over a much wider area. Many of ZyXEL’s access points operate dual-frequencies and support multiple SSIDs, so different networks can be set up for different groups of users. Auto-sensing and configuration features make them very easy to set-up and to use.
