ZyXEL GS1900 delivers high-powered PoE support for small business IP deployments

November 28, 2013

ZyXEL Communications, a leading supplier of networking and communications solutions, is aiming to build on its success in the web-managed switch market with the launch of the GS1900 series of entry-level switches. The new range includes an eight-port switch that supports high-powered Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices, making it ideal for small clusters of wireless access points, IP telephones and surveillance cameras.

The GS1900 range provides smaller businesses and branch offices with Gigabit Ethernet switching solutions with Layer 2 management capabilities. As well as an eight-port switch – the GS1900-8HP – that supports 802.3at Plus PoE on all ports, a standard non-PoE eight-port device and a 24-port model are available.

The ZyXEL GS1900-8HP can deliver up to 30 Watts of power to each port – enough to support dual-radio wireless access points, advanced IP telephones and IP cameras that have tilt, pan and swivel functions and built-in heating that allows them to function in low temperatures.

The GS1900 builds on the increasing popularity of ZyXEL the fast-growing web-managed segment of the switch market. ZyXEL is increasingly being seen as a credible provider of end-to-end business-class networking infrastructure solutions and has seen particularly strong sales of its web-managed PoE-capable devices in recent months. ZyXEL is already one of the market leaders in many European countries and is gaining ground in others.

Jon Pearce, Head of Market Development Europe at ZyXEL, says: “The GS1900 range offers excellent performance and investment protection, with reliable Gigabit performance, Layer 2 management capabilities and excellent functionality, so it really does tick all the boxes for smaller businesses. With all these qualities, the GS1900 can only add to our growing reputation and make ZyXEL an even more popular choice of end-to-end networking solutions.  With attractive margins and incentives available, our partners will benefit from their popularity as well.”

Pearce expects the GS1900-8HP, eight-port high-powered PoE switch to quickly become a popular choice for smaller firms. “We’re seeing more small businesses increasing wireless coverage, using IP-based surveillance and IP telephony. The GS1900-8HP switch is hugely attractive to these smaller firms, as it enables them to deploy a handful of access points, cameras or phones – or ordinary network connections – with full management capabilities, without building a more investing in more extensive and complex infrastructure. That means they can enjoy the business benefits that IP-based services deliver without investing in switching capacity that they don’t need”

The ZyXEL GS1900 range of switches will be available from ZyXEL distributors in December.
